WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOU MISS A BUCKET SWAP/COMPOST PICKUP:

Please be aware that while we may, and often times do, as a courtesy, send text messages and/or emails or make phone calls to our subscribers to ask if they can place their buckets outside for us, for in the event we arrive at their household to find no bucket waiting for us, we are not obligated, per our Terms of Service, to do so.

Furthermore, because of the sheer number of subscribers we serve each week, we are unable to wait more than a few minutes at any individual household for a response to our text messages/emails/phone calls before moving on to our next stop.

Should we skip your household, due to your bucket not being placed outside for us by the time we arrive to complete your scheduled Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup, we may, upon request, be able to make arrangements with you for a special, one-time Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup at Green Bay Plaza on Military Avenue in Green Bay on a later date. This is something we have done for several subscribers. That said, please know that under no circumstances will we be making a return trip to your household prior to your next scheduled Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup day, as doing so would be highly inefficient for us.


IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

If you have more material than you can comfortably fit in your bucket, materials that are too large to fit in your bucket (such as plain/matte cardboard pizza boxes, garden waste, such as end-of-season tomato plants and annual flowers, or seasonal/ornamental items, including pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks, etc.), or a lot of excess, dry, paper-based items, such as toilet paper and/or paper towel tubes, plain paper, or egg cartons, please see the FAQs section of our website regarding this or Contact Us to learn what your options are.

Please note: All buckets you may receive from us will come with a lid on top, a BPI-certified compostable liner inside, and approximately half a pound of sawdust/wood shavings in the bottom, to absorb moisture and help control odor.

If the bucket you are receiving is your first bucket from us, you will find inside your bucket a Welcome Packet, which includes a Welcome Letter and a printed list of Acceptable and Not Acceptable Materials for inclusion in our buckets.

Effective immediately, our List of Acceptable and Not Acceptable Materials (which can be viewed and downloaded at www.GBCompost.com/List) has been updated!

PLEASE DELETE AND/OR DESTROY ANY PREVIOUS COPIES OF THE LIST YOU MAY POSSESS AND REPLACE WITH OUR NEW ONE.

Notable changes to the list (which we think you’ll love) include:

  • Stickers, rubber bands, twist ties, etc. from fresh produce have now been placed at the very top of the Not Acceptable side of the list (as these contaminants, and particularly produce stickers, continue to be the most common contaminant we find in our buckets), with a recommendation to remove them from produce as soon as it is brought home
  • Bones (as long as they are from cooked meat) are now acceptable (with the caveat that we do not want whole carcasses, such as Thanksgiving turkeys)
  • To provide clarity, jams, jellies, preserves, maple and other types of syrups, nut butters, salsas, hummus, tahini, etc. have been added to the List as Acceptable
  • To provide clarity, herbs have been added alongside fruits and vegetables (whole or scraps, raw or cooked) as Acceptable, with added emphasis about STICKERS NEEDING TO BE REMOVED
  • To provide clarity, herbivorous animal/chicken bedding has been added alongside herbivorous animal/chicken droppings as Acceptable
  • To provide clarity, we have updated the Not Acceptable side of the list to state that we do not accept either alcohol or fruits (such as apples, cherries, watermelon, etc.) soaked in alcohol, and to make clear that while we do not want vinegar poured into our buckets, we will accept pickled items such as eggs, mushrooms, and vegetables (including pickles)
  • We have removed frosting from the Not Acceptable side of the list and updated the Acceptable side of the List to state that we accept bread and other baked goods (which encompasses things like cake, with or without frosting)
  • To provide clarity, we have updated the Not Acceptable side of the List to state that we do not accept Large Amounts of Liquids or Oils, such as bacon grease, coffee, juice, kombucha, nut milks, pickle brine, tea, etc., but that a little bit is okay, such as on a paper towel, and that leakage from decomposing fruit/vegetable scraps is expected

Furthermore, because of the sheer number of subscribers we serve each week, we are unable to wait more than a few minutes at any individual business for a response to our text messages/emails/phone calls before moving on to our next stop.

Should we skip your business, due to your buckets not being placed outside for us by the time we arrive to complete your scheduled Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup, we will not return to your business until your next scheduled Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup day, with no exceptions, which may necessitate your business needing to dispose of any additional organic waste it produces in your trash bins/dumpsters until then.


IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

If you have more material than you can comfortably fit in your buckets, materials that are too large to fit in your buckets (such as plain/matte cardboard pizza boxes, seasonal/ornamental items, including pumpkins, gourds, corn stalks, etc.), or a lot of excess, dry, paper-based items, such as toilet paper and/or paper towel tubes, plain paper, or egg cartons, please see the FAQs section of our website regarding this or Contact Us to learn what your options are.

Please note: All buckets you may receive from us will come with a lid on top, a BPI-certified compostable liner inside, and approximately half a pound of sawdust/wood shavings in the bottom, to absorb moisture and help control odor.

If the buckets you are receiving are your first buckets from us, you will find inside one of your buckets a Welcome Packet, which includes a Welcome Letter and a printed list of Acceptable and Not Acceptable Materials for inclusion in our buckets.

If this day is your next scheduled Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup Day, please remember to place your full/semi-full bucket(s), with lid(s) snapped securely on top, in a safe, easily accessible area of your property, such as on your front step/porch/patio, in front of your garage, or at the end of a walkway leading to your drive, by no later than 8:00 AM Central Standard Time (CST) on this day.

Failure to do so can result in your household being skipped until your next scheduled Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup day.

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE YOUR BUCKET(S) AT THE END OF YOUR DRIVEWAY OR NEAR THE CURB, WHERE IT/THEY MAY BE MISTAKEN FOR TRASH AND DISPOSED OF BY YOUR MUNICIPALITY, LOST, STOLEN, BURIED IN SNOW, OR DAMAGED.

Please note: Due to the ever-changing nature of our subscriber count and pickup routes, we cannot guarantee that your Bucket Swap/Compost Pickup will be completed at any particular time of day. Thank you in advance for your patience.
