Who We Are

Greener Bay Compost is Northeastern Wisconsin’s premier compost company, serving the Green Bay metropolitan area with our Award-Winning Residential and Commercial Compost Pickup Services, the area’s only food-waste-focused compost facility, and year-round sales of our 1/4″ screened, premium compost.

If you’re looking for an Easy, Clean, Convenient, and Green way to recycle your food scraps and associated organics, meet your sustainability goals, or reduce your “carbon footprint,” whether you’re an individual/family or a business/organization, then you’ve come to the right place!

Our Compost Pickup Services, which are essentially Waste Management services mixed with Recycling operations, were designed to help our environment by diverting as many food scraps and associated organics from our local landfills as possible.

What We Do

Each week, we divert thousands of pounds of food scraps and associated organics from our local landfills, with the help of our hundreds of Compost Pickup Service subscribers, and transport them to our compost facility in the Town of Lessor, where we convert them, over the course of several months, into a nutrient-rich soil amendment known as compost, which we reward our subscribers with and make available for sale to the general public, year-round.

The composting process we use is known as “hot composting,” which involves us building long piles (known as windrows) of food scraps and associated organics mixed with wood shavings, which we turn and water for several months, to keep tiny bacteria called “microbes” inside the piles alive and thriving.

These microbes break down the materials in our windrows, generating heat as they do so (killing both pathogens and weed seeds in the process), until eventually the materials no longer resemble food, but rather soil, with a rich, chocolatey-brown color and a sweet, “clean,” earthy smell.

Important to note: Unlike the landfilling of food scraps and associated organics, our process produces no methane (a toxic greenhouse gas 20-30 times more potent than carbon dioxide).

After as little as 13 to 14 weeks, our compost is “finished,” at which point we screen it down to 1/4″ in size (thus making it perfect for not only backyard gardens, flower beds, and agriculture, but houseplants, lawns, golf courses, and athletic fields as well) and package it up, in Gallon and Cubic Foot sized bags, for sale to the general public (and as rewards for our subscribers).

Our Impact

As of the time of this writing, we have nearly 200 Residential subscribers, plus a handful or so of Commercial Subscribers, have produced and sold/distributed thousands of pounds of our 1/4″ screened, premium compost, been featured on/in the news multiple times (including on NBC26, Fox11, and Local 5 Live, as well as in the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Press Times, and The Business News), and diverted over 150,000 pounds (75 TONS) of food scraps and associated organics from our local landfills, thereby saving all the Municipalities whose we residents serve countless taxpayer dollars (and delaying the building of yet another landfill in the Green Bay metropolitan area).

And the best part? We’re just getting started!
